Piracy is an illegal duplication of original copyrighted content, and that duplication is later sold at a lower price as compared to the original one. This violation leads to deduction in the sales of the original work since the pirated one is sold at a less rate and people get a hold of it easily. Today we have a lot of streaming platforms like Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Disney+, Apple+, Amazon Prime, Spotify and so many more but these streaming services charge a certain amount whereas streaming through pirated websites like isaimini is free.
Piracy can be done in various forms such as cable piracy, video piracy, CD/DVD piracy, etc. In video piracy, the original movie is being made into a videocassette and sold in the “grey market” without the permission of the producer of the film. Usually, the film producer sells their movies to other vendors after 6 months of the production and release but in piracy of movies, the movies are made into video cassettes right after the release without any authorization. Today we have illegal websites that steal the original content and stream them online on their websites.
Many pirated websites like isaimini are streaming HD content illegally even today and look like they are not stopping anytime soon. Various legal actions can be taken again such as websites which we will learn about more in this article. It is to be noted that we do not recommend piracy nor we support Piracy.

Through VPN i.e. Virtual Private network, one can have access to this website, however you should not use this at all. VPNs form a virtual networking system that includes a public and private network. Then a private network is created where other private networks are connected but through public networks. Such websites can be easy to use but not safe because torrent contains malware and this can badly harm your system once downloaded.

Piracy is banned in India and countries like the USA and some of the European countries. Legal actions can be taken against such websites. Although the Indian Government has tried to ban websites like Isaimini a number of times, such websites do not surrender. The government loses a large amount of revenue due to such sites. To save themselves from getting banned by the government, websites like isaimini are constantly changing its extension from .com to .uz and many more leading to failed attempts by the government. Since 2020, isaimini has changed its name and is now called Moviesda.

What is the government doing to stop piracy?
The Copyright act of 1957 states that if a movie is illegally recorded and its physical copies are sold in retail markets and the owner files a complaint against it then the police and investigation officer can conduct a raid in that market and an arrest warrant is issued under section 63 of the copyright act. Along with this, the union cabinet has also approved the Cinematograph act amendment which can charge you up to Rs. 10 lakhs and 3 years in jail if you are found to be stealing movies. Although the government is imposing various laws and actions against such illegal sites and traders; the piracy of movies is still very prevalent in today’s time.
What will happen if I download movies Illegally in India?
In India, A few years back there weren’t a lot of ways you could download or watch copyrighted content that you like i.e. movies, series, tv shows, documentaries, etc at the comfort of your home. DVDs were the thing if you wanted to watch content legally. But they weren’t as cheap as they are now. But there was another, a way you could watch, download and share content that took months or sometimes years to create with just a few clicks. In the year 1996 torrent started spreading all across the country.
The only thing you had to pay for was your internet, which you were paying for already. Sounds tempting, doesn’t it? You’re not the only one. Millions of Indians were tempted by this offer and started using Torrents. Through torrent websites like Kickass torrents (the most used site of its time which kept coming back with new domain names after the domain getting banned and whose owner got arrested), The Pirate Bay, 1337x.to and many more Indians started downloading free content and ditching DVDs.
You may get a question that the internet speed wasn’t as much as it is now so wouldn’t it take hours or even days to download huge content of the order 10s of Gbs. See that’s where another advantage of using Torrent comes into play. When you download anything from any official site you are downloading it from the central server, so you are just downloading data from there. Moreover, if more people download the same data from the site, it would mean more loads on the server reducing the download speed for everyone.
On the other hand, when you download things using Torrent the data is transferred from many other peers that already have the data. Imagine the content downloaded being a puzzle. The person downloading from the official site is downloading a piece at a time. The speed of giving the pieces reduces when a number of people ask for the pieces to increase.
It is quite intuitive; the server has to process the request of more pieces by more users. But imagine if the users were sharing copies of the pieces among themselves. If I want a movie and if I ask for one piece of that movie from everyone who has downloaded the movie. I would get the movie quicker. This is how Torrent works.
All this sounds fancy but it is theft at the end of the day. As the users sharing the copies of the data (i.e pieces of the puzzle) have agreed to give the copies to you. And it isn’t quite a crime yet to download things from Torrent as long as the creator or creators have allowed the free sharing and download of it and the material isn’t copyrighted. But who are we kidding? Won’t people download or watch copyrighted content for free rather than pay for it?
They have been for many years. But should they be doing it? No. Under Sections 63, 63-A, 65 and 65-A of the Copyright Act, 1957 you could face up to 3 years of imprisonment and a fine of 3 lakhs. These piracy punishments vary as first time offenders are subject to pay 50,000 to 300,000 as fine and serve 6 months to 3 year in jail. Jail-time plus 300,000 fine for a few bucks you saved. The deal doesn’t sound tempting now, does it? The government even banned 32 torrent websites in December 2014. This blockage was later removed after an agreement on different types of content showed there. However, no such events have been recorded as the people in charge of the copyright of a specific movie generally try to block the URL when illegal content is streamed and downloaded.
India is one of those few countries which have multiple film industries that are dominant in the box office like Bollywood and Tollywood. The reason why piracy is more prevalent in India is that there is a big production of content every year which interests the local audience. The culture of piracy is booming now because everyone knows how to access the VPN and multiple physical stores illegally sell a hard copy of the pirated films. The population has played a major role in this case and hence India is facing this problem on a larger scale.
Moreover, just the way downloading copyrighted content has become easier as years have passed due to advent in technology, the chances of you getting caught has increased too. Cybersecurity is getting beefed up and the escape from law seems implausible.
How can you stop digital piracy?
There are various ways to stop digital piracy and the number one is awareness where you can educate the people and tell them the disadvantages of piracy and how it is illegal and immoral which can cause major problems once caught doing such activity. Telling people about various laws and consequences if they are found violating the law. Also, the danger it can cause to their system if a pirated file is downloaded because unknowingly malware can enter your system and that is something one should worry about. When viewers understood the intensity of the situation the numbers did go down. In addition to this very sensible thing producers can do is reduce the prices of their content or at least sell it at a reasonable price which will not motivate the viewer to go and see pirated content reducing the incentive.
Although, not a lot of people understood the potency and hence barriers are being imposed on entry. This lies in the hands of the government where it instructs internet service providers (ISP) to impede entry into pirated websites, basically blocking the sites on their servers. Not many people are tech-gurus who hold the knowledge that in such cases VPNs can bypass the blocked sites but instead it largely helps to reduce the prated website users.
Lastly, cooperation between various producers is also very essential. The above methods can help to reduce piracy in their ways but if there is one wrong link then it can collapse the whole system. The producer needs to be alert and not sparing with his/her content. He/she should be vigilant and keep an eye online to see where their content is being pirated and how they can efficiently decipher the problem.
You can also report acts of piracy and people usually overlook this prevention method. The Software and Industry Information Association is a domain that works on an extension SIIA this authority is based in Washington DC which has its servers spread all across the globe. The main aim of this organization is to take care and deal with software and online piracy at the corporation level.
Conclusion:
Despite the various law enforcement and methods being used to curb this problem, piracy is still being practiced. The piracy market is almost 18 crores of worth today and the government is finding it hard to put a stop to it completely. But because of various help from the people as well as the corporations, the numbers of pirated viewers are decreasing slowly and steadily. As a producer, the harm cannot be fully stopped but methods can be used to prevent it or lessen it as much as possible.
