On January 26th, 1950, the official constitution of India was enacted by succeeding the earlier Government of India act of 1935. January 26th was chosen to be the republic day. The Indian national congress further proclaimed it as an opposition to the dominating status offered as a provision by the British Regime.
At the time of independence, there was no proper constitution in India. First draft for Indian Constitution was presented on 4th November of 1947 to the national assembly.
