Celebration of intuition and femininity
The International Socialist Women's Conference proposed in the year 1910 that March 8 should be celebrated annually in the memory of the working women.
Since then, March 8 has been celebrated every year as ‘International Women’s Day.’ It was the Suffragettes (women seeking the right to vote through organised protests) with purposeful actions aimed at achieving equality that started the celebration of this day officially under the name of “International Women’s Day”.
This event was organized in 1911. The day was officially recognized and celebrated by the United Nations in 1975.
Women’s day represents the struggle for equality of power, respect, job opportunities, education and in every other field in several countries.
In contrast, some countries celebrate it as a celebration of womanhood. Several nations also ignore the concept and significance of International Women’s Day.
Overall this day signifies struggle for equality of an entire gender that has been continuing for ages and persists even till today.
The prominent idea of a man being the bread earner of a family and thus, the head of it starts the base of discrimination.
Even if a woman isn’t working, she is the one behind making a house, a home. She is the one who looks after every quarter of a house and deserves equal respect and position as she is the one who carries, nurtures, nourishes and brings up a boy into a man.

This day signifies an awareness of the Civil Rights of women. Most of the discrimination & suppression is suffered due to unawareness among people about the rights of women and how they are supposed to be treated.
Thus, being aware is the first step of empowerment. International Women’s Day also includes young girls as all ages equally suffer sexism and suppression.
Also, this day signifies the discrimination against women that needs to be stopped and the ignorance among people with regards to gender that needs to be removed.
